ENG: Cultures are build upon different understanding and interpretation of the same phenomena or objects. For example this website banner of the Statue Park in Budapest, Hungary calls the Soviet period in the history of Hungary ‘communist dictatorship’. In Russia the same period is viewed as the time when the Soviet Union promoted development and well-being of its Eastern-European neighbors.
Here come cultural borders again and the most powerful of them are invisible because they are built in people’s minds.
RUS: Культуры строятся на разном понимании и интерпретации одних и тех же феноменов или объектов. Например, баннер вебсайта Парка скульптур в Будапеште, Венгрия называет советский период в истории Венгрии «коммунистической диктатурой». В России тот же период рассматривается как время, когда Советский Союз помогал развитию благосостояния своих восточно-европейских соседей.
Таким образом, мы снова возвращаемся к теме границ, и наиболее мощными из них являются невидимые границы, т.е. созданные в сознании людей.

I used this post yesterday in a chat session with one of this year's exchange students from the Novgorod region. She was saying that she was 'lucky' that her host parents did not require her to take history this year... Bad move: we made Nina take AP Humanities (History & Literature), for pity's sake!
So first I quoted this posting, and then I started asking her questions... It worked.
Of course, before she got too frustrated with my questions, I switched the topic to roller coasters.
It sounds great. So I am lucky that people not only read the blog but also use it for educational purposes.
By the way here is more on cultural borders: today is Women's Day in Russia which is a strange holiday even to me. Greetings!
