The House of the Rising SunИсполнитель: AnimalsThere is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God I know I'm one My mother was a tailor Sewed my new blue jeans My father was gamblin' man Down in New Orleans Now the only thing a gambler needs Is a suitcase and a trunk And the only time he'll be satisfied Is when he's all a-drunk Oh mother, tell your children Not to do what I have done Spend your lives in sin and misery In the house of the Rising Sun Well I've got one foot on the platform The other foot on the train I'm going back to New Orleans To wear that ball and chain Well there is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God I know I'm one | Дом Восходящего СолнцаПеревод на русский языкВ Новом Орлеане есть место, Называемое Дом Восходящего Солнца Там закончилась жизнь многих ребят из бедных кварталов И, видит бог, я знаю, что я - один из них. |

Dear Culturally Displaced Person,
Are you OLD enough to remember this song from the days when it was on the radio? I can hear it inside my head, inside my body. So sad, so resonant...
Happy New Year!

Gwendolyn
I am old enough to remember listening to the song at my friend's apartment in the eighties when the commies declared playing rock music illegal in schools. Thank God the rule didn't last long.
Happy NY!
